Thirty-three years ago a quantum leap of human consciousness was achieved not by a new Sermon on the Mount but by a direct human experience of the earth as a whole. Nature knows no inside or outside, no boundaries; and we know today that environmental disasters do not stop at national boundaries either. Seen with our eyes from outside nature forms a unity, as it always did for us when "seen" from the inside with our hearts.

This new Sense of Unity will be brought to the attention of the general public by the proposed Swiss Pavilion. A breathtaking mountainscape from sunrise to sunset, the holiest of holies of Switzerland, will be projected onto a 360 degree screen. Nothing particularily exiting will be shown, just nature, as she is, from morning to evening.

One is invited to sit down, lie around like children again, take a rest and relax or watch intensely on the soft flooring of the central cylinder. For this reason, the projected film will have been taken from a grass-perspective.

The most mysterious heart-beat of nature, the rhythm of the human heart, will form the background "music" in the cylinder. For many a visitor it will probably be the first time to listen to one's heart consciously. Such music does not induce chatting but rather silent contemplation. Therefore, entering this space one is also invited to take one's shoes off.

Naturally, the unprejudiced visitor will expect to see a Swiss scenery, and initially see it also in reality. But what will be projected will be a Himalayan one.

Surely, the little Max will ask his parents why do the Swiss exhibit Nepal? Exactly this question is meant to become the central topic which we want to have discussed by the visitors over a glass of wine or a coffee in the square main hall of the pavilion, under the lavish green of trees and vines.

With this pavilion, Switzerland will reveal the most important obstacle which has delayed human evolution over millennia, namely the physical and conceptual division of our globe into opposing national, racial or religious entities, as a mere defect of vision. In 2005 Switzerland will not continue to exhibit its own objects of art or bravour pieces of national or local technology as such. Switzerland will exhibit a new human insight, perhaps the most important of our new age and offer it for public discussion.

Ein Quantensprung im menschlichen Bewusstsein ist vor dreiunddreissig Jahren nicht durch eine Bergpredigt, sondern eine direkte Erfahrung der Erde als Ganzheit geschehen. Die Natur hat keine politischen Grenzen; und heute wissen wir, dass unsere Umweltsprobleme auch an Grenzen nicht Halt machen. Die Natur formt somit eine Einheit mit unseren Augen von aussen betrachtet, wie sie es schon immer tat mit unserem Herzen von innen "gesehen".

Diese Einsicht soll im Schweizer Pavillon jetzt ins allgemeine Bewusstsein gebracht werden. In der Mitte des quadratischen Pavillons wird eine 360 Grad umfassende runde Projektwand ein brilliantes Bild einer Berglandschaft vom Sonnenaufgang bis Untergang, in anderen Worten das Heiligste

des Heiligen der Schweiz, vorführen. Es passiert auf dem Bilde nichts Aufregendes, die Natur ist dort einfach so wie sie ist, von morgens bis abends. Man kann sich in der Rotunde hinsetzen, wie Kinder einfach hinlegen und ausruhen oder auch bewusst schauen. Die Projektion ist deshalb absichtlich aus der Grasperspektive aufgenommen.

Hintergrundmusik in der Rotunde bildet der mysteriöse Herzschlag der Natur, nämlich der Rhythmus des menschlichen Herzens. Für viele Besucher ist dies sicher das erste Mal, das eigene Herz schlagen zu hören. Eine solche "Musik" regt nicht zum Quatschen, sondern zur stillen Beschaulichkeit an. Deswegen wird man beim Eintritt in diesen Raum auch eingeladen, die Strassenschuhe abzulegen.

Natürlich wird der unvoreingenommene Besucher eine Schweizer Szenerie erwarten und sicher auch anfänglich "sehen". Die projizierte Berglandschaft ist jedoch keine Schweizerische, sondern eine Nepalesische.

Der kleine Max wird dann sicher an seinen Vater die Frage richten: Warum stellen die Schweizer Nepal aus? Dies wird das zentrale Thema sein, das wir zur Diskussion bei einem Glase Wein oder duftenden Kaffee in der umliegenden Halle unter viel Grün von Bäumen und Reben anbieten und anregen.

Die Schweiz wird somit das wichtigste Merkmal, das die Entwicklung der Menschheit seit Millennien verzögert hat, nämlich die physische und konzeptionelle Aufteilung unseres Globus in nationale,

rassische und religiöse Einheiten, als einen Defekt unserer eigenen Vision entlarven. In 2005 stellt die Schweiz kein Objekt oder Land oder ein Bravourstück nationaler Technik oder lokaler Natur an sich aus. Die Schweiz stellt hier eine menschliche Einsicht aus und bietet diese zur Diskussion an.

Wenn nämlich, auch die Amerikaner zum Beispiele Irak, Deutschland Polen und Indien Pakistan in ihren Pavillons "ausstellten", dann gäbe es in der Zukunft kaum Kriege mehr, kein Nord-Süd Problem, keine G7, G8 oder G13 Treffen; und gegenwärtige Umweltprobleme wären einfacher zu lösen.

The creation of a pavilion of such contents and message will infiltrate the mentioned quantum leap of human consciousness, our new Sense of Unity, into the social and political thinking of our time. Indeed, it could be "A small step for Switzerland, but a giant leap for Humankind". As a neutral country, Switzerland would also bring enough credibility to such a proposal. If Switzerland decided to realize such project the potential influence and benefits of such decision onto the concept and form of future World Exhibitions as such would be unpredictable.
